STEM Engineering Challenges for Kids
Think Like an Engineer
Engineering challenges teach kids to plan, build, test, and iterate โ the core design process. Use cheap materials so failure is low-stakes and rebuilding is encouraged.
Challenge 1: Spaghetti Bridge
Build a bridge from dry spaghetti and marshmallows that supports a cup of pennies. Teaches load distribution and triangular structures.
Challenge 2: Paper Tower
Build the tallest free-standing tower using only 10 sheets of paper and tape. Explores structural stability and center of gravity.
Challenge 3: Egg Carton Catapult
Design a catapult from an egg carton and rubber bands. Launch pom-poms at targets. Teaches stored energy, leverage, and trajectory.
