Teaching Measurement to Kids (Fun Way)
Measurement Is Everywhere
Kids encounter measurement constantly — cooking, building, comparing sizes. Making it hands-on builds intuitive understanding before formal math.
Length Activities
- Measure rooms in "feet" (their own feet, heel to toe)
- Compare objects: "How many blocks long is your stuffed animal?"
- Use rulers to measure growth of a plant each week
Weight Activities
- Build a balance scale from a hanger and cups
- Predict which objects are heavier, then test
- Weigh ingredients while baking together
Volume Activities
Fill containers of different shapes with the same amount of water. Does it look like more or less? Teaches conservation of volume.
