Best Sidewalk Games for Kids of All Ages
Classic Sidewalk Games That Never Get Old
Sidewalk games are some of the simplest and most engaging outdoor activities for children. All you need is chalk and a flat surface. These games have been played for generations because they work.
Hopscotch (Ages 4+)
Draw a traditional hopscotch grid with numbers 1-10. Kids toss a small stone onto a square, then hop through the grid, skipping the marked square.
Four Square (Ages 6+)
Draw a large square divided into four equal sections, numbered 1-4. The ball is bounced between squares, and if it bounces twice in your square or goes out of bounds, you are out.
Chalk Maze (Ages 3+)
Draw a winding maze on the sidewalk. Start simple for younger kids and make it more complex with dead ends and loops for older children.
Target Games (Ages 4+)
Draw concentric circles like a dartboard on the ground. Kids toss pebbles, bean bags, or coins from a distance. Inner circles score more points.
Shadow Tracing (Ages 3-7)
On a sunny day, have one child strike a pose while another traces their shadow with chalk. Switch roles and compare the results.
