Watercolor Techniques for Kid Beginners
Getting Started With Watercolors
Watercolors are forgiving and magical for kids. Colors blend on their own, mistakes can be softened with water, and even random splashes look artistic.
Basic Techniques
- Wet-on-Wet: Wet the paper first, then drop in color. Watch it spread and blend.
- Dry Brush: Minimal water on brush creates textured, scratchy marks
- Color Mixing: Start with 3 primary colors, let kids discover secondaries
- Salt Texture: Sprinkle salt on wet paint for starburst effects
First Projects
Start abstract โ let colors flow and mix freely. Progress to simple landscapes: wet the sky, add color, drop in clouds with a tissue. Flowers are also forgiving subjects.
